Are you raising emotionally healthy kids?
by
As kids manage the many demands of school throughout the year, it’s our job as parents to be on the lookout for problematic signs of stress.
Keep an eye on the usual telltale signs of depression and anxiety, which include moodiness, irritability, sadness, and poor sleep. Also take note of frequent physical complaints (such as headaches and diarrhea), spending more time with friends who may not be the best influence, over- or under-eating, physical signs of self-inflicted harm (such as cutting or burning), and new nervous behaviors (such as biting or picking).
If you notice any of these signs, talk to your child about what you’re observing, seek support from the pediatrician, and talk with a family therapist about how best to help your child better manage his/her emotions.
Your unconditional love and steadfast support will be the most powerful antidote to any depression or anxiety getting in the way of your child being the most amazing person you know them to be.
